How Do I Hide These Cables, Cords, and Wires?

Isn't it funny how a few electronic devices can create such a mess? It starts out innocently enough, but soon your television is supplemented with speakers, a dvd player, router, chargers, game consoles, etc, etc. Factor in the various cables and cords running to, from, and between everything and you have a huge mess.
Since my nearest outlet is about four feet away, all the cables, cords, and wires pile up right next to my television stand. I've managed to contain the problem to this one area, but it's one of the first things you see when you walk into the room and I can't stand the sight of it. Have you had success hiding huge tangles of wire? Do you have a clever DIY'able solution to this problem?

That's a pretty big mess. You could probably spend some time and bundle the cables together better and that would help a bit. I have the same issue, and the only solution I was able to come up with was to put a bookcase in front of them...

You could hollow out the back of a small, decorative chest that could sit beneath or next to your table.

You want a simple solution, right? Well, this might not be so simple to do, but at this point you need to try out as many possibilities as possible so you can gather the best points of each and combine them into some best solution.
My idea is to use the hollow space underneath the table and then running a single power cable down one of the legs. If you could build a drawer into that table and face it to the back so that it only opens from the back, then you could put all your cables/adabpters into it. Perhaps just a simple shelf instead of a drawer would be sufficient.
Good luck!

Some plain (flat surface) cotton curtains underneath the table (in colors of your room's pillows or carpet, of course). :)

Hang some doors on the existing table, maybe.
