The Particle Board Bathroom (How Not to Do It Yourself)

Why is it that the simple projects always take the longest?
Remodeling for Geeks explains how the relatively simple task of stripping wallpaper and repainting a small bathroom quickly becomes something a bit more involved when the wallpaper is removed to reveal... wait for it... particle board. On every wall.
The entire bathroom was sheathed in particle board, and wallpaper had been glued directly to the unprimed surface. Particle board? In a bathroom??? What were they thinking?
So now, after sanding and skim coating, the walls are almost prepped for paint... and what should have been a fairly short process has taken over 16 hours to this point, with much more to go.
I guess that's why you should always factor in extra time for dealing with those little, unexpected setbacks.
