Floating Dock with 55 Gallon Drum Pontoons

This isn't your everyday do it yourself project (and if you don't have a pond in your backyard you may have no need for this) but I think this how-to is too cool not to share.
Instructables user pilx begins his project by constructing a basic frame from readily available dimensional lumber and some basic hardware. Once the frame is complete, he ties four 55 gallon drums (plugged and sealed with silicone) to the frame.
Then he flips the dock, floats it, and attaches some 1x4 decking to create a solid platform.
Whether anchored in the middle of a pond or to the shore, this dock is a great place to spend a warm summer day. It's the perfect addition to the backyard pond you wish you had.

Nice! I could build that. But how do I haul myself up onto it??? :)

Instead of using drums, I wonder if a person can put the top boards on, lay the whole thing upside down like the 2nd picture, and spray foam the inside of the frame? Hmmm.

@Lance: maybe, but many foams are not rated for immersion or long-term exposure to sunlight. Plus it's a big ugly job. Drums are super easy.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting your dock instructions. I used it to build my dock. I did a lot of modifications to make it happen including using a lot of different hardware. But in the end it's wanted I wanted. Here is a link to a photo of it. http://flic.kr/p/atGXHt
Thanks again. --Devin
